NRA Pistol Instructor Course

This 3 day-24-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course. This certification is one of many the NRA offers that will help you get started in the firearms training industry and is required in many states for many purposes.

More Details:

Day one:  Basic Instructor Training (BIT) This class teaches you the history of the NRA, It’s purpose and mission. You will learn how to properly organize and market your programs, protect student information, as well as what it takes to be successful, using their programs. The Instructor level Shooting qualification will occur first thing Day one on the range cold. You must demonstrate proficiency of your shooting skills by getting 16/20 rounds on a 9″ plate from 40′ in a 6″ group using a standard pistol. .22Lr will not be accepted in this course. 

Day Two: NRA Basic Pistol Student This course is a mandatory requirement before attending the Instructor course and will give the instructor candidates the ability to see the Basic pistol student course taught properly to the NRA standard as well as allow us to work with you one on one and help improve your shooting abilities to better guarantee your successful completion of the shooting qualification.

Day three: NRA Basic Pistol Instructor The instructor candidates will demonstrate their teaching abilities to students using the basic student material they saw on day two with assistance from our Counselor staff.

Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercise which includes a shooting qualification. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months.

Description: Course is presented in three parts: BIT, basic student training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Basic Instructor Packet, NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course student packet.
