NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)

NRA Basic Instructor Training is designed to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses. It is the NRA class that helps people who already have subject matter expertise learn how to hold a class the NRA way so that their students earn recognized NRA certification.

More Details:

This course teaches you the policies and procedures for becoming an NRA instructor as well as effective teaching methods for training students. Basic Instructor Training is a pre-requisite for all instructor level courses.

This course is a minimum of 6 hours and covers the following topics:

  • How to introduce a speaker
  • The instructor and the NRA Basic Firearm Training Program
  • Using a training team
  • Training materials and training aids
  • Organizing your course
  • Preparing to teach

Prerequisite:

This course is the mandatory pre-requisite for initial NRA Certified Instructor training. Instructors seeking new disciplines who have not taken BIT in the past two years are also required to repeat this course.

NRA CCW Instructor Course

NRA CCW Instructor Course
The NRA CCW Instructor course requires 16 hours. It covers everything an Instructor Candidate should already know to be able to teach the NRA CCW course to students. If you have not done BIT in the past two years, this is also required. 

More Details:

Day one: Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Every instructor seeking a new discipline must have attended this training within the past 2 years. This 8 hr class Certifies that you understand how to properly represent the NRA, Its courses, and its students. We go a little deeper discussing proper marketing, social media presence, and more. 

Day Two:  Is classroom and day 3 is range time. At the end of the range portion, you must be able to pass a timed shooting qualification (from concealment) in order to receive this advanced certification. Strongly recommend practicing the AZPOST qualification from concealment to help you prepare. Strongly recommend KYDEX style holsters and mag pouches with two belt clips. (ANY SAFETY VIOLATIONS WITH YOUR DRAW STROKE OR RETURNING TO THE HOLSTER CAN DISQUALIFY YOU.)

Instructor Candidate Pre-Requisites
Instructor Candidates for the NRA CCW certification must already be NRA Pistol Instructors. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months.

Description:

This is a three-day NRA CCW Workshop
We start off with a 1 hour NRA CCW student course that meets the Arizona CCW permit requirements. We then begin the NRA CCW Instructor course (part 2).

NRA Pistol Student/Instructor Course

NRA Pistol Instructor Course

This 24-hour course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course.

More Details:

Day one: is the Basic Instructor Training (BIT) This day covers NRA history, purpose, gives you insight on how to properly market and advertise your classes using NRA emblems and logos. This course is required when seeking a new discipline or if you have not attended within the past two years. This morning the very first thing you will be tested on is your shooting ability. All instructor candidates will shoot the qualification cold. 

Day two: Is the Basic Student Course and is now required. This will give instructor candidates the ability to see the course taught properly in its entirety.

Day Three: The instructor candidates will demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet, and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course student packet.

Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prerequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Before the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises which includes a shooting qualification. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months.

Equipment required: A pistol 9mm or larger full-size handgun. 200 rounds of ammunition, notebooks, pens, eye and hearing protection, and a positive attitude. Laptops or tablets are also welcome.

Upcoming NRA Pistol Student/Instructor Course

NRA RSO/CRSO Course

NRA RSO/CRSO Course
The NRA RSO/CRSO course may be together or separately and will have individual signups for each class.

More Details:

RSO or Range Safety Officer course will take place on day one. This course is meant to teach you the ins and outs of monitoring shooters at a range or participating in an event. Your job is to keep people safe. Each range can be unique from each other with specific rules, policies and procedures given the exercises they may be performing each day. We will dig into the things you need to know. There will be some time spent on a live range and there will be some role playing involved.

CRSO or Chief Range Safety Officers will be covered on Day two. CRSO’s are responsible for working directly with Property Owners, Ranges, facilities and staff to develop SOP’s, training RSO’s and managing the day to day flow of operations. This is also an Instructor level class and will require you to have taken BIT (Basic Instructor Training) within the past two years. You will be demonstrating your ability to teach others. There will be some time spent on a live range and there will be some roll playing involved.

Instructor Candidate Pre-Requisites
Should have a working knowledge of safe firearms handling and be able to demonstrate the safe loading and unloading of various types of actions like Revolvers, semi-auto’s, lever actions, falling blocks, bolt actions and various styles of black powder.

NRA PPITH Student/ Instructor Course

Short Description:

This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to You and your family’s personal protection inside your home.

More Details:

NRA PPITH basic student course which is now required and will give instructor candidates the ability to see the course taught properly. This course takes a full two days to properly learn everything. This class continues with Basic pistol shooting skills and includes a large component into law and legal.

NRA PPITH Instructor Course takes an additional two days. This allows the TC to spend a thorough amount of time observing and critiquing instructor candidates on how to properly teach and Improve your students.  

Prerequisites: NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Certified

Students: Should have taken some basic pistol training courses before. Should be familiar with your firearm.

Instructors: Prior to the instructor training, candidates will have completed the student course and will complete a pre-course questionnaire, demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises which includes a shooting qualification. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months.

NRA PPOTH Student/Instructor Course

NRA PPOTH Student/ Instructor Course

Short Description:

This 24-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to You and your family’s personal protection outside your home.

More Details:

NRA PPOTH basic student course which is now required and will give instructor candidates the ability to see the course taught properly. This course takes a full 1.5 days to properly learn everything. This class continues with PPITH shooting skills and includes a smaller component into law and legal. The primary focus of this course will be drawing from the holster w/wo Concealment, Cover and Concealment, Barrier shooting, Movement, Low light shooting exercises.

NRA PPOTH Instructor Course takes an additional 1.5 days. This allows the TC to spend a thorough amount of time observing and critiquing instructor candidates on how to properly teach and Improve their students. How to conduct safe, effective drills on the range in little to no light source.

Prerequisites:

Students: Should have taken some basic pistol training courses before. Should be familiar with your firearm.

Instructors: Prior to the instructor training, candidates should have completed the student course and will complete a pre-course questionnaire, demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises which includes a shooting qualification. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months.

Short Description:

This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Rifle Shooting course.

More Details: Day one is the basic student course which is now required and will give instructor candidates the ability to see the course taught properly. Day two the instructor candidates will demonstrate teaching the material they saw on day one with assistance from our Counselor staff.

Prerequisite: Prior to the instructor training, candidates will complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises which includes a shooting qualification. They must be able to show the Training Counselors that they have a HIGH LEVEL of proficiency in safe gun handling. They must have attended BIT within the past 24 months. 

Description: Course is presented in two parts: basic student training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA rifle shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic rifle Shooting course student packet.
